Focal points of Africa's Regional Economic Communities strengthen cooperation and collaboration

The Inter-RECs Coordination Technical Meeting of Focal Points kicked off today February 9, 2025, at the AYA Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, bringing together representatives from Regional Economic Communities (RECs) across Africa.
The two-day meeting, held in a hybrid format, aims to foster cooperation and collaboration among RECs, as well as with the African Union (AU).
This technical meeting will open discussions on key areas such as: Cooperation between RECs and the AU: Presentation and discussion of a draft position paper on strengthening collaboration and coordination, resource Mobilization: Exchange of views on strategies for mobilizing resources, including UN funding for African-led peace missions, Inter-RECs Coordination and Collaboration Platform: Briefing on the website and platform for enhancing cooperation and information sharing among RECs, handover of Chairmanship: ECOWAS will hand over the chairmanship of the Inter-RECs coordination and collaboration platform to a new CEO.
Mr. Jérôme Boa, who chaired the Session, commended the efforts of the focal points in maintaining the proper functioning of the platform.
The meeting provides a critical opportunity for RECs to align their efforts, share best practices, and address common challenges. By strengthening cooperation and collaboration, RECs can more effectively promote regional integration, peace, and sustainable development in Africa.
The end of the discussions of this technical meeting is planned for February 10, 2025 the meeting of the CEOs of the REC will take place on February 14
